About Us

Renewable Baseload Generators (RBG) specialises in large high speed and low-speed generators running on heavy bio-oils, biodiesel or biodiesel variants. The RBG team has 30+ years of experience in remote power generation and 15+ years of experience using biodiesel for power generation. We have chosen specific engine platforms to work with based on quality, value for money, compatibility with biofuels, their global support network, and most importantly an alignment of corporate ethics and approach towards sustainability. The conclusion of this approach has been teaming up with Staunch Machinery for its generator packaging as it meets our requirements of quality products, delivering value for money and their extensive experience delivering turnkey power generation packages around the world. Renewable Baseload Generators also works closely with its sister company Pro Green Biofuels Pty Ltd who specialise in the supply of quality heavy biofuels or biofuel infrastructure supporting the RBG customer network.

The Potential

Australia is one of the world’s largest oilseed producers, and RBG with Pro Green Biofuels have identified several unique and sustainable biofuel pathways that can tap into large organic oil reserves whilst boosting Australia’s energy security at the same time. Approximately 3 Billion litres of animal fats, vegetable oils and oilseeds are exported from Australia annually. RBG believes if just 10% of this export is re-directed to locally produced heavy biofuel power generation, it could deliver over 1,000,000 MWh of reciprocating electricity generation. For example, if this volume of renewable power generation were to be applied to support renewable assets, then this fuel could produce an effective reliable and dispatchable capacity in the order of 600MW. Alternatively, if the capacity was to be focussed directly at managing grid events and was applied similar to how some existing battery storage is utilised (that is, in short 15-minute bursts 1-2 times per day), this could then support capacity in the order of 12,000MW. In summary, the appropriate balance of this renewable generator capacity that is both reliable and dispatchable lies in between these two scenarios.

Premium Biodiesel compatible generators
Biodiesel is a high-performance CI fuel made from animal fats, vegetable oils or greases (FOG`s) and can be interchanged for diesel with minimum changes to an engine, Biodiesel is classified as a renewable fuel which can claim large scale generation certificates (LGC) when used in power generation.
Biodiesel can be produced using small modular micro-refineries making it possible to support regional industry or remote power stations.
Biodiesel is carbon neutral and will save 2.7Kgs of CO2 for every litre of mineral diesel it displaces.
Biodiesel powered generators are best suited for transport applications or rapid response generators as used in behind the meter backup generators.

Heavy Biofuels compatible generators
Heavy Bio-Oil, is straight vegetable oil either sourced as a virgin oil or as a waste cooking oil, where the oil is cleaned but not processed like biodiesel so is cheaper to deliver to generators.
Heavy Bio-Oil has a higher energy content than biodiesel and also can claim LGC`s. It is also more viscous than biodiesel or mineral diesel and is used in purpose designed low revving engines that are best suited to the renewable base load or remote power generation applications.
